Taylor Design is a strategy-based design firm with practices in Architectural Design, Interior Design, Planning, and Design Strategy; with offices in northern and southern California.
When two previous master plans in a five year period did not effectively solve the complex challenges of the campus, Taylor Design worked with McCarthy Building Companies and the Sharp Healthcare leadership team to create a Master Plan update. The campus is a mix of 15 different OSHPD-1 designated structures. Utilizing an efficient research and investigation method, a score card was developed to succinctly capture the condition of each building -evaluating whether their existing floor plates could be renovated to meet the new program or deemed too cost prohibitive to salvage. The final master plan recommended the demolition of six buildings and the construction of 400K SF of new space (including a new main entrance, improved site circulation and materials flow, enhanced surgery and diagnostic platform, all clad in a new, unified campus aesthetic. The master plan achieved unanimous approval from Sharp HealthCare’s management and board of directors.
