As one of the most desirable hospitals in Orange County for maternity care, Hoag Hospital wanted to expand their existing Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Fetal Diagnostics department on their Newport Beach campus to accommodate growing patient volumes. The design team was asked to create a space plan that maximized the number of new private rooms, minimized noise and disturbance for the tiny patients just entering into the world, while also capitalizing on the majestic views of the Newport Beach Peninsula.

Housed within the East Tower, the remodel includes 12 additional private patient rooms with clinical support space and administrative offices for the NICU and reception, waiting area, administrative offices, and four exam rooms for the Fetal Diagnostics department. Both departments will have access to an upgraded family lounge, complete with space both for socializing and reflection, and amenities.
