Following an extensive campus master plan, Taylor Design recommended that the County of San Mateo replace an aging hospital structure with a new, ground‑up administrative office building to provide a better staff experience and support the evolving needs of San Mateo Medical Center.

The new modern workplace includes open sightlines, abundant daylight, and a signature central stair that encourages movement and interaction. Efficient open office areas are complemented by shared amenity spaces, including cafés on every floor, inviting breakrooms, outdoor seating areas, and a fitness center—providing opportunities for respite, informal collaboration, and wellness. Critical on‑campus functions were incorporated as well, including a new morgue and autopsy suite for the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office.

Designed to serve the campus for the next 50+ years, the building takes a contemporary approach to workplace design, recognizing that a strong healthcare environment must care for the staff experience as intentionally as the patient experience.
